SPYGENIUS IN McCARTNEY MIX-UP HORROR
FROG CHORUS DROWNS OUT LOCAL CHART TOPPER Canterbury rock and roll mahatmas Spygenius were reported to be "devastated" following local radio buffoons KMFM's decision to replace their chart-topping monsterpiece "Conybeare's Island" with Paul McCartney's "Frog Chorus" in an epoch defining broadcast last night. A close friend of the band stated: "Conybeare's Island is a tune of such magnificence and wonder that a broadcast across the Kent and Medway area would surely have spread peace, harmony and cosmic realignment – just in time for Christmas too! I dread to think what Karmic damage has been done with this bizarre substitution." Officials from the radio station claimed that this was all an honest mistake, believing that Spygenius had produced a wry reworking of the Frog Chorus as a piece of post-modern retro irony. Fans were incredulous. "Are we really expected to believe that broadcasting professionals cannot tell a genuine Frog Chorus when they hear it? It's beyond belief. There has to be something dodgy going on here. I mean, KMFM is supposed to play local music, but Macca's from Liverpool! And the Beatles only played in Kent once! I reckon he's knobbled the DJ!" said one. Further speculation that some diabolical anti-Spygenius conspiracy was underway was fuelled by the mysterious disappearance of the band from KMFM's voting list for the new chart this morning (Dec 7th), uncannily marking the 66th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. The band nevertheless resolved to fight on, and get back to the top of the charts where they belong. Spokes-drummer Alan 'the hat' Cannings said "win or lose, sink or swim, one thing is certain, we'll never give in!"
